Each fall, Pack 131 alternates hosting a Raingutter Regatta for two years, then a Space Derby for two years. We also hold a Pinewood Derby every year in the spring.
For the Raingutter Regatta, Scouts will build wooden sailboats that sail along a water filled track. The boats are powered by wind as they sail along the course at high speed! In the past Scouts could blow on their boats, however post-covid we will be using small handheld fans to power the boats.
Raingutter Regatta Rules - These rules outline the requirements for the Raingutter Regatta boats and the race regulations.
Our Raingutter Regatta is a double-elimination race, meaning that each Scout will race at least twice. Scouts will be paired up randomly and race two at a time. Each Scout will race until they have lost twice. The winners of each heat will advance until the third, second, and first place winners are determined.
Boats wil be powered by a handheld fan and Scouts may not touch their boats. If a boat capsizes or gets stuck a leader will reset the boat where the incident took place.
There will also be an opportunity to vote on your favorite boats based on six categories: Best Workmanship, Funniest Boat, Most Nautical, Least Likely to Capsize, Most Unusual Sail, and Admiral's Favorite.
Be sure to keep these important points in mind while you build your boat:
